I know--what I was wondering.  I'm thinking maybe some of the cheeses could be encrusted with pistachios and peanut is a XC from that?  I really tend not to worry too much about cheese.

Oh geez!  I think I might have this in our refrigerator!!
  Nope, whew!  Same type fresco cheese product but diff manufacturer.  I think I did see this exact product in Pennsylvania, however (eventho it says NJ, CT, and NY for states affected) earlier this spring?  (We eat a lot of Mex cheeses . . . )

How does a milk get contaminated with peanuts or nuts like pistachio?
Are there peanut or pistachio milks out there now (I know there is almond) . . . ??

Peanut and Tree Nut Allergy Alert: La Finquita,                
   
La Finquita, LLC of Stamford, CT is voluntarily recalling one lot of La Finquita Quesito Fresco Campesino Fresh Farmer's Cheese, as a precautionary measure, because it may be adulterated with peanuts and tree nuts (pistachios).  People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts or tree nuts (pistachios) run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

The product was distributed through retail stores in Connecticut, New Jersey and New York.

The product is labeled as La Finquita Quesito Fresco Campesino / Fresh Farmer's Cheese.  The product is packaged in a 14.11oz. plastic container, UPC Code: 0 94922 76809 4, with sell by date 06/28/14.

No other products are affected by this recall.

The recall was initiated after being informed by our milk supplier, that the milk used to manufacture the cheese may be contaminated with peanuts and tree nuts (pistachios).

No complaints or associated illnesses have been reported.

Consumers are urged not to consume these products and to destroy the products or return them to the retailer where purchased for a refund.
