I went through about a blender a year prior to buying this one.  I've been happy with it, though I'm sure it's discontinued by now.

Our older glass bender cracked from having magnificent soup that was too hot in it.  DH loves to make soups.

So I researched this for a while and decided to buy him the kitchen aide with the polycarbonate jar.  It's best for soups.  The only problem is that you have to hold the lid down while doing initial blending, or it will pop up just a bit. 

I've never been happy with any blender I've ever bought

For these sorts of things I'll look up brands/types on Amazon and read the reviews, taking them with a grain of salt, but I always find the reviews very useful.

I think this is the newer version of the one I liked. We have worn out 2 (in over 13 years) and  since we don't use it that often I bought a cheaper kitchen aid with a plastic pitcher.  Bad decision.

I liked the glass container better because the whole bottom unscrewed and disassembled so it could all go into the dishwasher in separate pieces, even the rubber gasket.

I broke my 45 year old Oster when I dropped the bowl, and could no longer replace it. 

I ended up with a KitchenAid, which would be perfect if it had a glass bowl.  I too much prefer glass, but I gave up trying to find a decent quality blender with one (that was even somewhat affordable). 

FWIW, having never bought a blender before, I was in sticker shock when I went shopping.  I looked for about 6 months before collecting enough coupons to take the plunge. 

I want a blender that's easy to clean.  I also prefer glass.

I think Kitchenaid still has a glass jar. 

I'll be watching this thread because I've had two Osters that weren't great to begin with.  Really difficult to make smoothies with them.  I want glass, too; and I want a blender that can handle ice cubes when I make smoothies.  My Osters cannot.

Have killed another blender, I fear.

I want a well-rated blender with a GLASS container.  Do these even exist now?  All I seem to see are "high impact" plastic or metal (not see-through so not for me).

Lots of bad reviews for many manufacturers who used to be decent.

Anyone have some suggestions and experiences to share?

I cannot break the bank with this purchase, but I can go toward higher end if I have to.
