Also, some doctors will fill out paperwork for a fee and not require an office visit.  Our doctor does this for school forms and for medication forms (for which they don't charge).

I also wonder if the doc-in-the-box places, or even a P.A. at a drugstore, can fill out the paperwork.  That might be a lower-cost option than visiting an allergist.

If you have no insurance and no interest in filling out the paperwork, keep in mind there are several discount med cards out there that will help with a discount.  There is no cost to join from what I can tell and the card works much the way a discount card works at the grocery store (why do I sound like an ad).

Unfortunately they don't work with insurance, grrr.

That does sound promising, but I am concerned about the difficulty. If I have to pay out of pocket for an office visit to get my physician to fill out the paperwork, then I'm not really saving much over the cost of the pen.  Seems like a catch-22.
