DD's doctor wrote the dose on her med form for school as 50mg. She's about 150 pounds now and is certainly in need of an adult dose. We usually provide liquid children's Benadryl to school.
I found this dosing chart, but looking at it, it would seem that DD would need two tablets. What is the ml equivalent of a 50mg dose? Or should I provide tablets instead?

Maeve I found these at CVS. Each packet is 25 mg. They are the size of a credit card (and easily carried by ds in his wallet). Maybe these would be food to keep with the nurse?

It depends on the concentration.
If a 5mL dose provides 12.5 mg (I think that this is what I'm recalling from when DD used exclusively liquid formulation), then 4X that amount (20mL) would provide 50 mg.
Just looked-- and yes, I think that this is in fact the concentration of the syrup/elixir formulation sold otc.
Thanks. I'll stop at CVS and see if they have those packets McC. Otherwise, I may get the tablets. She's really only going to need the Benadryl in the case of a contact reaction. The bottle I provided last school year came home unopened. I don't actually even carry Benadryl with us anymore. Thankfully, DD's contact reactions have diminished (none in years) as she's gotten older and her allergist said that's to be expected as skin thickens as kids age. Her eczema has been under control for years now too, so that has helped.
The Children's liquid Benadryl I have in my bag (for contact hives) is 6.25 mg/5 mL. I take 20 mL = 25 mg and am just over 100 pounds. You would need 40 mL of this particular formula to get a 50 mg dose. If you had adult liquid Benadryl, the measurement may be different.
My GP and pharmacist told me to use liquid over tablets because it works faster, but the quick melts or powder may be another quick option if they are available to you. Be cautious of dairy in the other forms, if that's a concern to you - I recall some form/brand contained dairy at one point.
The boys both use the Fast Melt tabs of generic benadryl - CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Target carry them. I have not seen milk as an ingredient. They take 1-2 dependent upon issue.

I found my note on it - it was a local store-brand chewable tablet that had lactose in it but doesn't any more. Ignore my last.

No worries - I know it was an issue before but it looks like the newer reformulation removed the lactose (imagine, an allergy med without the top 8 allergens, go figure LOL).

At my cvs these are at the front counter and NOT with the other Benadryl. I picked up several for school.
