Just finished watching That Bites! a documentary created by a young filmmaker hoping to educate the non food allergic population about the challenges faced by kids with food allergies. My daughter enjoyed it a lot, and she was able to see that she is not alone in her daily struggle to stay safe while living as close to a "normal" life as possible. Highly recommended! What a great job he did!!

I would have liked to have seen issues regarding schools covered, since it is such a big part of our FA kids' days, but realistically I know that would probably require a separate movie in and of itself!  I was also a little surprised that the doctor at the end went ahead and food challenged him when he clearly had a positive skin test.  I always thought that with a reactive history, you would have to have both skin and blood tests show up negative before a doctor would food challenge, but maybe I am mistaken on that?

CT, component testing has really changed a lot of the thinking on that one.  SPT have never been that reliable other than on the negative side (that is, if it's negative, that is pretty much 95% confidence level for no allergy), so it isn't surprising that a positive SPT could lead an allergist to still want to do a challenge.

Glad to hear that this was good!

CT, did you purchase the documentary?  Where did you see it?  I've only seen the trailer, and am eager to see the whole thing.

yes, I did ...i  purchased it by following the link on allergicliving.com (down at the bottom under "story of the month" it says, "watch trailer and buy the film ..." ).  it is purchased through vimeo ...

CM ... interesting ... i've been learning A LOT lately about how far testing falls short of what we need it to tell us!  still, i am such a chicken ... i would never let my daughter do a challenge if both skin and blood turned up positive, especially if there had been no exposure to make me believe otherwise.  that's just me, though ;)
