Galactose-Alpha Allergy anyone else?

Hello there! My husband was diagnosed with Galactose-Alpha allergy last year after being sick for a year. Anyone else with this allergy?   What are your reactions? My husbands reactions are ones that the allergist said were not typical at all but that the last few people he had tested positive for the allergy had the same symptoms. Odd right?

Not yet, but it's becoming more common where i live.

And I say not yet because I pull off many ticks each year, including many Lone Star ticks.  It would be just my luck.

I know two people who have had it--both in Central Virginia, not far from Charlottesville.  One thought he was outgrowing it a couple of years ago, and I haven't talked to him about it since.

One of the gurus for this is Scott Commins at UVA in CHarlottesville, VA.  My son went to him a couple of times for food allergy, but Dr. Comins has published on Alpha Gal.

My husband was diagnosed with the allergy at UVA. Our primary Dr. had no idea about it and was treating it like a vitamin deficiency. Thank goodness for UVA.

If your husband doesn't know about the AuviQ epinephrine autoinjector, it's a great alternative to the bulky EpiPen--especially for men/boys.  Not all insurance covers it anymore, but our allergist (we don't live in VA anymore) will give our insurance company a medical necessity letter (it actually has a name--can't think of it). My 16 year old DS really loves the AuviQ. It's the size of a cell phone.
