Having a smart phone and a line to a few people that I can talk to during this stuff.... makes the cost of that smart-phone totally worth it for the few times when I've been so worried/anxious/antsy that I would otherwise be totally over the edge.



Ginger, I'm so sorry that this happened.   VERY glad that he is okay, and glad that you were able to get there quickly.  (Well, relatively-- could have been worse this time of year.)

Oh. Wow. I'm relived to hear the outcome was a good one! And so glad his teacher did all the right things.

Oh wow. I'm glad he was able to give himself the Epi. That disorientation symptom--so, so scary. 

I assume it was a speech thing?

So glad that he is ok and was able to give himself the epi - that disorientation can sneak up on you.


I think it is totally normal to be proud of him for giving himself the epi.  The last time I went to the ER, the great ER doc said: "You should be proud, you saved your own life today."  Totally a good reason to be proud.

Oh my, GP - so glad he's ok!  I can't imagine how stressful that trip must have been for you!  Sounds like he and his teacher both did a great job (and hopefully dining services learned a BIG lesson, too).

Yes, seems quite a few reax here lately . . . but I think many of us had gone quite some time without reax . . . so it likely evens out.  I hope, anyway.

Have to agree with TT and the mix up of food allergy with "gluten free" . . . that is something that we all need to focus on with our kids and young adults -- how to get that across and be clear AND how to tell if we were not understood, if at all possible.

I'm so sorry this happened to you.

Whoever it was upstream who said was in tears reading about you driving in the snowstorm, well I was in tears there too!

I knew you'd all know exactly what I was going through.

DS is fine today.  He is minus an epipen, so I've got an order in to get another set at the pharmacy.  There is a set of epis at school, so he's fine while there.

It's great there was no hesitation about going back to school. 

When DD had her last reaction the school nurse called to see if there was anything she could do to make DD feel safer even though the reaction was not at school.

Going back into the public can be scary.

How very scary - especially having to drive through a snowstorm to be with DS. Glad he's ok!!

Update:  the dining director at the university has met with her food service personnel a couple of times now.  They have brainstormed ways to make sure this doesn't happen again.  I don't know the specifics; just that they have met and worked out a better plan.

I am very sorry anyone had a reaction, let aline for it to happen to your ds, but I am glad they are taking it seriously and improving safety.

That is good that she is keeping you in the loop and implementing changes.  I think I would still send my own food next time!  Just so scary.
