It sounds like they didn't understand the distinction between asthma and anaphylaxis.  His dad said he was also allergic to peanuts.  Did their MD never prescribe epi?  Explain this to them? 

My heart breaks for this family.

So many doctors don't make sure their patients are educated enough about their condition (and that's if their doctors are educated enough themselves!).

There was a story today about a plane being turned around because a celebrity with a fish allergy was onboard and they were going to serve fish on the plane... Same celebrity that had a fish reaction a few weeks ago. (It's on Twitter, which I don't have, so I don't have a link.)
