A friend recently asked me if it is possible that her son react to touching peanut butter with itching and red bumps when he touches it, but experience no ill effects if he eats it without touching it.

I know that as a child I could eat mango but boy did I regret touching the tree or its sap.

Thank you!

She further clarified that he had eaten some prior to touching his eye.

I wouldn't mess around with peanut ... if child seems to be having any type of symptoms, I'd suggest avoiding & getting child evaluated by an allergist.

I suggested she keep a diary to keep track of reactions to help narrow it down. She said that nothing else changed that day, only the fact he touched the peanut butter instead of just eating it.

Thank you very much!
