What do you use in place of an Egg Wash?

I have a recipe that I want to try that has an egg wash on top of crescent roll dough.  Does anyone use anything different for this purpose.

I'm guessing that the purpose of the egg wash in this recipe is two fold.  One, to make it brown better, and two, to help the sesame seeds that are sprinkled on top to adhere.

If there isn't a good substitute, then I can just go without - I can deal with less browning, and even leave out the sesame seeds.  Would melted butter work?  Or a solution of baking soda and water?

I figured if anyone knows, it's one of us.

Resistance isn't futile.  It's voltage divided by current.
