movie theaters and fa?

my dd's class is going on a field trip to see the lorax. i've never taken her to a theater they seem to risky to me. not to mention the bus ride there. i told the teacher i dont think she'll be attending but i know she wants to see this movie. but like all other movies we can wait for dvd i'm thinkin.

We don't have your particular allergy but when my older son was gluten and dairy-free for digestive reasons, our theater had no problems letting us bring in our own foods, etc. They would also change their gloves and use a freshly opened  pack of cups for his drink (We wouldn't bring our own drinks, just food for him).


I know others here have your particular allergen concerns and have safely attended movies so I'll let them comment. Using wipes on the seats and making sure your daughter has a hoodie or something that she leaves on (and then throws in the wash when she gets home) are some things that come to mind.

My mfa son goes to the movies all the time and he  has also  gone 2 times without us with his aftercare program on pa days.

We have him wear long pants and long sleeves (even in the summer) and change after. We bring our own snack and have never asked we just brought them in.

She will have a great time.

Even as a pa/tna adult I have to take care in movie theaters. I always wear long pants and bring in a sweatshirt. Over the years I've had very few contact reactions --- when wearing short sleeves and/or shorts.  Lots of crumbs of peanutty candy I'm presuming.  Luckily for me a contact reaction is just a local hive or two where it touched.

Just in case, even for me, I bring Wet Wipes and wipe the armrests and another for my hands after settling in. I bring a regular size purse and fit in some chocolate candy (though I'm really not a movie snacker). I've never asked, I just do it. I don't bring in a mongo bag either, so it's not obvious.

Can you accompany the field trip? Seven is still young, and you can tell her to not roll up sleeves and not touch the seats, and wash hands before eating --- but she's young to remember and do it. If you went and sat a row behind her? That would give you some peace of mind and give her the experience?

We take DD to the movies all the time.  We wipe down her seat and the arm rest with Wet Wipes.  We purchase the popcorn for her (we check on the oil used) and let her purchase Twizzlers or Skittles and soda.  She's gone to the movies in shorts and short sleeves and has not had a problem (even though she's contact reactive).

She did once have a movie field trip with her day care when she was about your child's age. I arranged to leave work early and meet her day care group at the theater.  This way I could wipe down the seats and purchase her popcorn for her.  I was delayed in getting there because of a fender-bender in the parking lot.  I could literally see DD and her classmates walking toward the theater but not join them because of the tool I'd accidentally backed into.  Anyway, I didn't get a chance to wipe down DD's seat; she seemed a little rashy that night but didn't have hives.

DD goes to the movies - just went Sunday with a friend and her Dad.

Long pants and long sleeves - clothes in laundry as soon as she gets home - in the summer if she'd rather, she brings an oversize towel or small blanket to cover the seat and wears shorts.

Wipes for the plastic drink holder/arm rest.

Brings own snacks, buys a drink.

Can not go unless either an adult is watching the same movie or is in another movie in the same theater and the kids have cell phone contact option to call that adult at all times.

She does fine and loves to go.

When she was younger, she went to movies on field trips and has sat next to a chaperon or teacher (I use to work and could not go).  Same precautions and no problems.

We've gone a few times. I wipe the armrests and check the seats and wipe if necessary. We all check each other's backs and behinds when we get out to make sure nothing is on them. So far we've never gotten food. Since we homeschool we go in the early afternoon and usually we are the only ones in the theater. My dd doesn't seem to have contact reactions though. It's been a long time since she's had hives.

DS goes to movies all the time.  WE usually get him some kind of candy that we know he can have (of course, I check the label anyway, just in case).  Never had a problem.

Same here... we bring DS with PA/TN to the movies often.  We have never had a problem.  Just take some extra precautions (wipe down armrest, bring/purchase safe food) and enjoy!

DD also goes to the movies.  Similar precautions-- DD also brings in her own popcorn-- openly.  We've only once been challenged, and it was made clear that it was an ADA matter and that was that (we simply spoke with the manager).

The other members of the party, however, DO get concessions from the theater, and DD purchases a bottled water there.

At nearly 13, she and her friends now go to the theater with a parent at a nearby coffee shop.  But this is only within the past few months.

We go all the time.  weve checked out the food and my sin routinely gets the popcorn, pretzel bites or pizzas and slushues.  we dont wipe down the armrests. not meant as advice, its your decision. The only reason we ever bring anything like dollar candy boxes from Walgreens or bottles of soda is to save money. a trip to the movies for my brood can easily run 100 bucks. we too are blatant and might even bring candy and soda bottles in sticking iut of pockets and purse. Although hubby usually gets one big soda and asks for extra cups. lol. they never argue with him....

I felt kind of silly wiping the armrests off the first time, until I noticed every wipe had brown sticky stuff on it. So even without allergies I think I would rather not put my arm down on sticky soda.

You've never wiped off a school desk, have you? Then again, the movie seats are cloth. filled with butt sweat, and maybe a few lice eggs....

Our theaters are pretty new, my feet don't stick to the floor, and the staff looks fairly clean. Bunch of young adults, high school teens, but I digress.

It's not like he wipes off the booths in a restaurant, a bus, or the bleachers at school.

Ah, now, if anything creeps me out, it's the exam tables in a dr's office.

He doesn't even wipe off the school lunch table, but he knows not to eat in visible slop.

I think any of us would.

We're all eagerly anticipating Ambraham Lincoln, Vampire Slayer. Until then, Brave will have to do. Can't remember which comes out first. My older son is a movie hound, and has went with me to see "Secret life of bees", and "The Help" when no one else would.  (in hubby's defense, he saw "The Help" with us, even if it was not his first choice  )

No, I've never wiped off a school desk but I can only imagine. My kids are homeschooled so they haven't had the opportunity to wipe a desk either. I concede that the seats have gross stuff too but my clothes are between my skin and the seat. Not so for the armrest most of the time. We did wipe the seats a little bit-there were a couple of crumbs that may have been food or may have been dirt or grass.

My kids are not all that excited about going to the movies so we only go for 3D movies so far, with the exception of one transformers 3 (not in 3d) that ds just had to see right away. They're mostly happy to wait for the dvd and watch in comfort at home. I have no desire to go to the movies for myself. I like curling up on the couch to watch a movie and I'm never in a big hurry.
