I had shown this post to DS ages ago.

He's setting off for the Ordeal tonight. He remembered your son's story. I had forgotten that it was associated with Order of the Arrow, I had associated with Scouts in general.

Thanks for a very well written post about FA and Scouts that I could show DS. His memory was better than mine and made a huge impression on him. He remembered the details about being hungry and impact on choices.

Thanks, tigerlilly (one year later!).  I came back to this thread this morning because my now-16 year old son is getting ready to go to the airport to fly with his troop to Philmont, NM for a 10-day hike in the desert.   The organizers provide the nutritional information on all the trail food and we provide peanut-safe alternatives when necessary, which DS will need to carry.  He has 3 epipens and a SPOT GPS tracker/medevac signaler and I am still having a really hard time letting go.

But in two years he'll be a legal adult and making all his own decisions so I figure this is good pracitce.

Hey--let's hope he comes home more worried about where the group had to get water  as it is a dry season.
