So, I have $800 value border-tariff exemption...what is the latest safe Canadian chocolate items I'll want to find and bring back?

Smarties.  They're similar to M&M's, but safe. 

Dare cookies.

Laura Secord now has some peanut free.  I haven't bought any, so I don't know if they are also nut free.

Which reminds me....if you see the little peanut picture with a line through it, read the ingredient anyway.  Some companies are now labelling peanut free, but there are actual nuts in the item. (Nuts are not peanuts, so I'm not upset about this labelling.  For a person that is only avoiding peanuts I do think this is a step forward.  But, I just want to make sure you know to check, if you avoid both.)

Dollarama has a lot of peanut free stuff. They sell a brand "Original" that has a lot of peanut free.  And Freddo chocolates. (Not one of my favourite chocolates, but to each their own.)

Check labels-nestle ca labels well. Also look for vadebonceour chocolates (I think freddo is also the same company). I may have butchered that spelling.

This was awhile ago and I have no idea whether or not they are still safe, but DS got quite the thrill over being able to get a McFlurry safely.  :-)

Read labels, but last time I checked the regular ones were safe.

Not the bunny ones though. They had a peanut warning.

Another reminder about the peanut-free symbol.  It's just that: peanuts.  Some companies use confusing wording too, showing the peanut-free logo and saying nut-free and I always have to double check those because you never know if they mean peanuts, nuts, or both.  You can find many products with the peanut-free logo that contain or may contain nuts as well.  (Peanut-free almonds, for example, or some granola bars.)

The bag of bite size Kit Kats were not safe (at least not the package we checked in Quebec).

The snack size is different than the size I was referring to. The bite size are like the mini Rolos and Snickers we have in the U.S. They come in a bag and are not individually wrapped. Those were not safe. You're right about the smaller snack size of the Canadian Kit Kats.

...and the wonderful thing is that all of the full size bars and the bags of snack size ARE ON SALE AT SHOPPER'S!!!

...and also have lunches/dinner "back-up" covered with multiple Quiznos and Chipotles near my hotel and the conference location
